Honestly @gray_adams, are you sure it was the lamp? Sometimes it's just old or faulty wiring in the house.

Man, I've been there with trying to save a buck on wiring. Tbh, I once rigged up an old power strip and it sparked like a fourth of July show. My friends still give me grief about that one. Ngl, it's better to just buy new stuff and sleep easy at night. Seeing a near fire sure changes your mind on reusing parts.
