Book fair in Portland ruined my clean spines habit

Went to a used book fair in Portland last month and saw a vendor selling old paperbacks with the spines all cracked and pages lightly stained. People were GRABBING those over pristine copies. One guy said the worn look makes it feel like the book has a story before you even open it. Now I stopped treating my shelves like a museum and I distress my own books on purpose with tea stains and creases. Has anyone else started making new books look old on purpose, or am I the weird one here?
