Unpopular opinion: Nomad connections felt more real before apps
I liked when you met people by chance at a cafe or hostel. Now it's all planned through apps, and that spontaneous vibe is gone.

Totally get what you mean about apps making things feel planned. I make a point to leave my phone in my room when I'm out exploring. Just sitting at a bar or in a hostel kitchen without looking at a screen opens up chances to talk. Most people are waiting for someone to say hello first. Apps are good for finding groups, but real connections happen when you're both in the same place at the same time. Try skipping the app for a day and see who you meet by just being around.

Back in Chiang Mai a few years ago, I met most of my travel friends just hanging out at the old city cafes. Do you find that apps make conversations feel more like interviews instead of natural chats? In my experience, the pressure to have a perfect profile kills the vibe. I miss those unplanned moments that led to all night talks. What's one real connection you made by chance that sticks with you?
