Went to that big digital art gallery in downtown Portland last week and every single piece had the same sunset photo...

Hey, that sunset photo was the whole point of the show.

Honestly though, @dakota787 saying that was the whole point of the show doesn't really explain why every single print had the exact same sunset with the same filter on it. Like, was the artist trying to make some boring point about how we all see the same thing online, or did they just run out of ideas halfway through? Ngl, I've been to a few shows like this where the concept is way thinner than the price tag suggests, and it just feels lazy. Tbh, if you're gonna charge $30 entry and sell prints for $200, at least give me one piece that doesn't look like an Instagram filter threw up on a stock photo. What was the actual reaction from other people there, or did everyone just nod and pretend it was deep?

...and the thing is, I bet when they pitched that show to the gallery they were like "it's a commentary on digital saturation" and everyone nodded like that explained the 47 copies of the same orange blob. Like come on, charging that much for prints that look like they were made by somebody who just discovered the "vivid warm" filter on their phone is wild. I wouldn't be surprised if the real point was just "I need to pay my rent and people will buy anything with a sunset on it." And honestly, maybe that's the most honest art statement of the year.
