My Procreate canvas got corrupted after saving to iCloud Drive

I was working on a big piece, about 50 layers, and saved it directly to iCloud Drive from my iPad. When I tried to open it on my MacBook the next day, the file was totally scrambled and half the layers were gone. I learned to always export a final .PSD to my computer as a backup before relying on cloud sync for big projects. Has anyone else had Procreate files get messed up like this, and what's your safe save routine?

Directly to iCloud Drive" sounds like the problem, so do you save to your iPad first now?

My old iPad Pro only has 32GB of storage. Saving locally first would fill that up in about five minutes of video work.
