I compared posting WIPs on Discord vs a proper gallery site, and my finished pieces tanked on Discord
I spent 4 months dropping rough sketches in a 200 person Discord server every night, and the reactions were instant so I kept going. Then I moved the same workflow to a gallery site where I only post when a piece is done, and my finishing rate jumped from like 2 pieces a month to 7. The Discord crowd just wants fast stuff to scroll past, so I kept making fast stuff. Anyone else notice their best work comes out when nobody's watching the middle part?
Read a thing a while back about how live audience feedback messes with what you make. The short version is your brain chases the quick hit, so when people react fast to a sketch, you learn to make sketches. Put the same effort into a finished piece in that server and it gets one emoji and scrolls away, because nobody there wants to sit with a thing for more than two seconds. Moving to a gallery where the only feedback comes at the end forces you to finish, since there is nothing to feed on in the middle. Watched a guy do the same experiment with music loops versus full tracks and he had the exact same jump. The silence in the middle is the part that actually makes you good.
