Vent: Stopped by a shop in Bakersfield that had zero air filters in stock
I pulled into a diesel repair shop off the 99 last Tuesday needing a simple air filter swap for an old Cummins. They told me they hadn't stocked any in six months and just relied on customers bringing their own parts. That's a joke for a place that calls itself a full-service shop. How do you run a diesel shop without basic maintenance parts on hand?

That's on you for not planning ahead"? So they got a sign out front saying bring your own parts now?

Actually, that shop might have a point. You said "full-service shop" but times have changed, and stocking filters for every old Cummins variant is a nightmare. They probably got burned sitting on inventory that didn't move for months, especially with all the different part numbers out there. Most guys who know their trucks bring their own parts anyway, because they know exactly what they need. It's not a joke, it's just smart business to avoid wasting money on stuff that might never sell. If you showed up without a filter, that's on you for not planning ahead.
