Pulled the valve cover on a 6.7 after 180k miles of cheap oil and the difference was ugly
Pulled the valve cover on a customer's 2016 Ram 6.7 last week, and the rocker arms were coated in a thick black sludge that you could scrape off with a fingernail. He had been running whatever bulk oil was on sale at the farm store and skipping filter changes. His buddy's identical truck, same mileage, running a decent 15w40 and filters every 5k, looked clean enough to eat off of. Now he wants me to flush it and I'm not sure a flush will do anything but loosen all that junk into the pan. Anyone here got a safe way to clean one of these out without pulling the whole top end?
