Dropped $180 on a fancy torque wrench adapter kit and my old $30 beam wrench did the job better in Fargo
Everyone on the forum swore I needed the digital angle kit for head bolts on a 6.7 Cummins, but after fighting the adapter slipping on three bolts last Tuesday I grabbed my old beam wrench and hit the sequence fine, so what is the one tool you regret buying after the cheap version worked all along?

Building on that point about the cheap tool winning, the real kicker is that the fancy stuff adds steps that can go wrong. With the beam wrench you just watch the needle climb and stop, no batteries, no calibration drift, no adapter deciding to slip off a socket at 90 ft lbs. Every extra part is one more thing to mess up, and on a job like head bolts you want as few links in the chain as possible. The digital angle kits are great for some torque-to-yield stuff where you literally can't get a straight shot at the bolt, but half the time people buy them just because the forum said so. What other jobs have you guys found the old school way beats the new gear?
