Tried reviving a 2003 Rio MP3 player with a car battery, got a light show
My buddy dared me to jump start my dead Rio Karma using a 12V car battery for 30 seconds, and the screen flashed every color before the battery swelled up and popped out like a Pez dispenser. Now I'm wondering if anyone else has destroyed something trying to resurrect it with too much juice, or is this just my dumb luck?
Man, people really overthink this stuff. You hooked a 12V battery straight to a device built for like 5V at most. Of course it went sideways. That's not a mystery, that's basic electronics. The light show was just the internals frying in order. The swollen battery thing is pretty standard for lithium when you feed it way too much power. Honestly, you got off easy. Could've started a fire. So no, not dumb luck. Just a dumb idea that worked exactly like it should have.
