The pawn shop guy who made me ditch my MP3 player for good

Last spring I brought my old 2005 Creative Zen into a pawn shop in Tulsa to see if they'd take it, and the guy behind the counter just laughed and said 'why keep a brick when your phone does everything?' That stuck with me because he wasn't being rude, he just pointed out how much time I spent fixing battery cables and shuffling songs through a dying USB driver. Has anyone else had a stranger's casual comment finally push them to retire a dead gadget?
