My Kindle Keyboard 3 died after 12 years and I fixed it myself instead of buying a new one
Everyone in here seems to think old tech should just be tossed once the company stops caring, but I went the other way last week. My Kindle Keyboard 3 from 2010 finally quit charging, and Amazon support basically laughed at me when I asked about parts. I found a $9 replacement battery on a sketchy site and spent about 2 hours watching a guy on YouTube take one apart with a guitar pick. The tiny screws almost made me quit twice, and I did strip one of them pretty bad. But once I got it back together and plugged it in, that little orange light came on and I actually yelled in my kitchen. The battery lasts about 3 weeks now, same as when it was new. Why do people upgrade when a $9 part and some patience brings it back? Has anyone else resurrected one of these old e-readers, or am I the only one still reading on a device with buttons?
