My 2009 iPod Classic battery went from 8 hours to 40 minutes in 3 months, and I can't decide if repairing it is worth it
Back in March my 160GB iPod Classic could still play for about 8 hours on a charge, then by the end of May it died after 40 minutes. I opened it up and the battery had puffed up like a little pillow, which I guess is what happens when a cell sits in a drawer in Phoenix for a decade. So here's my debate: do I spend $25 on a new battery and pry this thing open with a plastic card, or do I admit the click wheel era is over and move on? One side says keeping old gear alive is the whole point of this group, the other says sinking money into a 15 year old hard drive is just denial. What did you all do with your dead iPods, fix or funeral?

40 minutes from 8 hours in 3 months is nuts, but that puffy battery is the real tell. A swollen cell isn't a "maybe I'll fix it later" thing, it's a fire waiting to happen, so either swap it or get it out of your drawer. Twenty five bucks and a plastic card is honestly a cheap fix for a 160GB Classic, those drives still hold a ton of music and the click wheel is way more fun than scrolling on a phone.
