Appreciation post: my dead Zune hit 1,000 songs in one shuffle and I felt like a wizard
So my old brown Zune 30 finally kicked the bucket back in 2019, no more software, no more store, just a brick with a nice screen. I tossed it in a drawer in my apartment in Portland and forgot about it for a while. Then 6 months ago I dug it out of pure boredom and charged it up with a USB cable from a dollar store. The thing booted like nothing happened and still had 812 songs on it. I spent a whole Saturday dragging MP3s over from an old external drive I found at a garage sale for 5 bucks. Last night I hit shuffle and the counter on the screen flipped to 1,000 songs played since I turned it back on. I just sat there on my couch grinning at this little plastic rectangle that nobody supports anymore. It felt like I beat the system somehow. Does anyone else keep a dead device running just to prove it can still do the one thing it was made for?
