Found an old arcade carpet pattern under the food court tiles at Metro Mall
I was poking around the old Metro Mall last weekend with a buddy and the food court floor tiles were peeling up. Underneath was this wild teal and purple zigzag carpet that must have been from the 80s. You could still see the faded outlines where the arcade machines used to sit. Anyone else find weird stuff hidden under the rubble at your local dead mall?

Three of the arcade machines had their serial numbers still faintly visible in the dust rings on that carpet. Were you able to get a photo of the full pattern before the mall renovation crew sealed it back up?

The serial numbers being visible in the dust rings is interesting, but everyone's focused on the hardware. Nobody's talking about the carpet itself. The vacuum lines and dust patterns around each machine tell a story about how long they sat there and how often they got moved. A photo of the full layout would let someone map out exactly which spots had machines for years versus ones that got swapped around. That kind of information is more valuable for preservation than just knowing which models were there.
