Rant: dropped my favorite mug on the kitchen tile during a quote reading, and the whole chapter hit different
Last Tuesday I was making coffee at 6am and knocked my mug off the counter, and it shattered on the tile in like four big pieces plus dust. The mug had a line on it from Marcus Aurelius that I'd read a hundred times: "You have power over your mind, not outside events." Standing there in bare feet at 5:45 in the morning, holding a broom, that line finally made sense in a way it never did when the mug was just sitting on a shelf being decorative. I swept it up, threw the pieces in the trash, and sat on the floor with my coffee in a plain mug. The quote didn't stop the mug from breaking or make me feel better about it, but it did stop me from being mad at the tile, the counter, and myself for the next hour. So now I'm wondering, does anyone else have a quote that only landed because something dumb and small went wrong first, like a broken mug or a spilled drink? What was yours and what broke?
