Turning off wifi auto-join on my phone after a coffee shop scare in Austin

My phone kept grabbing sketchy open networks without asking until I killed auto-join for everything except my home router, and it's been smooth sailing for about 5 months now. Anyone else lock down their phone this way, or do you just leave it on and hope for the best?
