The 15 minute call that saved me from a $2,000 ransomware scare

Last March I hit a sketchy link on a work email and my files started locking up one by one. I called a friend who does incident response and he talked me through unplugging the drive and booting from a live USB, which got my data back before the crypto even finished. Has anyone else got a go-to person they call before calling the pros?

Gotta say, lucky your friend knew that trick, but most people aren't that close to an expert to bail them out like that lol.
