My cousin the IT guy told me to ditch password managers. Here's why he was wrong.
We were at a family BBQ last weekend and my cousin Dave who works in IT security starts going off about how password managers are a single point of failure. Said he just uses a mental system with patterns. I asked him how many accounts he has. He guessed around 150. No way he remembers 150 unique passwords. I showed him how my manager generates 20 character random strings and auto-fills on my phone. He shut up quick. Has anyone else had someone try to talk them out of using a password manager?

Did your cousin also tell you to leave your front door unlocked because locks are a single point of failure?

Hang on, @rowangonzalez, your cousin actually said that about locks being a single point of failure? That's wild to me. I'm genuinely shocked someone would think that way, especially since doors are like the most obvious barrier you have. If that's their logic, shouldn't they also leave their car windows down because glass is a single point of failure too? It just seems like a dangerous way to think, and I'd be scared to leave my stuff out like that.
