That one customer who said "you just press buttons" actually got to me

An older lady last Tuesday watched me ring up her order and said "must be nice to just stand there and push buttons all day" and I realized she has no clue what we actually deal with. Has anyone else had a moment where a rude comment made you totally rethink how invisible the job really is?

Man I had this guy once who watched me bag his groceries and said "looks like you got the easy job" right as I was mentally keeping track of which bags had eggs, which had raw meat, and trying to remember if the bread was already crushed under the canned goods. Like @lunah86 said it really shows how people just dont see the juggling act behind simple tasks. Its funny too because if we messed up even one tiny thing they'd be the first to complain. Makes you wonder how many other invisible jobs get that treatment every day without anyone thinking twice.

Heard that exact line before. Got me thinking though - that attitude says more about how our society devalues service work than about the customer. People assume if they can see what you're doing, it must be easy. Never mind the mental load of balancing 5 tasks at once.
