Spent 45 minutes on one return at the register in Reno, the receipt printer was fine the whole time
Back in 2019 I worked the returns desk at a big box store off Virginia Street in Reno. A lady came in with a blender and no receipt, which should be a 5 minute thing. It turned into 45 minutes because our system kept kicking the transaction back and I kept re-scanning the same barcode like a fool. Finally my manager walked over and saw the card reader was unplugged the entire time. Nobody teaches you that stuff on day one. Did your training ever cover the dumb stuff that actually breaks?
Training covers the rulebook, not the real world. Nobody warns you that the scanner is dead or the receipt roll is jammed backasswards. I spent 20 minutes once rebooting a register that just had a loose power cord. The fix is always something stupid and simple.
