I worked the register at a grocery store in Spokane for two years, and I used to say the same scripted line to everyone: 'Have a blessed day, now.' One older guy finally snapped at me after his third visit, said it sounded like I was reading off a receipt. He told me to just look at him and say 'Thanks for coming in' like I meant it, no frills. I started doing that for everyone and honestly the job got less weird, people respond better to plain talk. Has anyone else gotten feedback that made you ditch the corporate script entirely?
