Hot take: I started writing my stories from the middle, not the beginning, and it fixed my 6-month writer's block.
Everyone says to outline the start first, but I got stuck every time until I wrote the scene where my main character finds the hidden letter in the old Seattle bookstore, then worked backwards and forwards from that point.

Wait, is that really starting from the middle though? Sounds like you found the actual beginning, the spark that kicks the story off. The "start" they tell you to outline is often just boring setup. Your hidden letter scene is the real engine.

Remember trying to build a model plane from the instructions, just got glue everywhere. Started with the cool cockpit piece instead and the whole thing finally clicked together. Sometimes you just need to find the fun part first.
