A desk clean up just deleted my story starters
Tackled my home office last weekend. Wanted a fresh space for writing. Emptied every drawer onto the floor. Saw a bunch of scribbled sticky notes. Assumed they were old to do lists. Tossed them all in the bin. Later, I sat down to write. My go to prompt jar was empty. Those notes were my raw ideas. Now they are gone forever. Double check your scraps before you trash them. Keep a digital copy too.

Man, that hits different than just losing a file. Throwing the actual paper away adds this layer of finality that deleting stuff never has. It's like you performed a tiny ritual killing for every single idea. Maybe the mess of the notes was part of the creative fuel, and organizing them straight to the trash just cleared your mental cache too.

My friend scanned all his old sketchbooks before a move, then dumped the originals in a recycling bin. He said watching the pages go, with their actual pencil smudges and coffee stains, felt like burying a past self. All those half-formed comic ideas and weird character sketches just gone, even though he had the scans. Said his brain somehow treats the files like ghosts, but the trash bags were a real funeral.
