An old hand on my first tower job said my hand signals were too smooth, and it took me a while to get why
Back when I was running a 90 ton rough terrain in Amarillo, he said slow and smooth signals make operators guess where the load is going, so now I snap each direction and hold it a beat. It felt jerky and wrong for a month, but the guys on the ground read me way faster. Anybody else get a signal tip that bugged them before it clicked?
Sure makes you feel like a dancing monkey at first, snapping your arm around like you're swatting bees. Turns out the ground guys aren't reading a book, they just need to know right now which way the load's going. Took me a minute to stop being pretty and start being clear.
