Our It Takes Two night in my Denver basement turned into a 40 minute blame session over one elephant puzzle

Last Friday my buddy Nate and I were three hours into It Takes Two on my couch in Denver when we hit the part with the elephant and neither of us would take the blame for messing up the timing, so we just sat there yelling at the screen while his controller battery died. We ended up pausing, ordering pizza, and switching to a 2 player Mario Kart race just to cool off, which honestly worked better than any apology would have. Does anyone else have a game that starts fights in your group, or is it just us being stubborn about couch co-op?
