Warning: my clippers died mid fade on a walk in at 6pm and I had to finish with a razor
Had a walk in last Tuesday at 6pm, guy wanted a skin fade and I was already running 20 minutes behind. Halfway up the side my clippers just stopped, no warning, straight dead. I had no backup pair charged because I got lazy and left them on the dock overnight. So I finished his fade with a straight razor and a comb, took me 25 extra minutes, and honestly it came out cleaner than I expected. He tipped me $15 and said it was the smoothest fade he ever got, which felt like luck more than skill. Now I keep two charged backups in my drawer and check the battery light before every walk in. What is your go to move when your main tool dies right in the middle of a cut?
Did you ever think about keeping a corded clipper as a backup? That is what saved me a couple years back. My cordless set died right in the middle of a taper and I just swapped to the old corded one I keep on the bottom shelf. It sounds old school but it never runs out of juice. Now I run a corded one for the bulk of the work and save the cordless for the detail stuff. Costs less than losing a client over a dead battery too.
