Vent: dropped $1,800 on a used total station for my crew and it keeps paying off

Bought one off a retired surveyor in Boise 8 months ago and we cut our layout time on a 12,000 sq ft pour from 2 days to about 5 hours. Has anyone else gone this route instead of renting, and what did you do about calibration and software updates?
