My uncle in El Paso swore the city water report hides something, and after 4 months of my own testing I owe him an apology
For years I rolled my eyes at my uncle Ray because he kept going on about our tap water in El Paso being off. I figured he was just bored and watching too much late night junk. Then last October my son started getting weird rashes after baths, so I finally caved and bought a $22 test kit online. First test showed nothing, but I ran samples from the kitchen tap, the hose out back, and my neighbor's place on the next block. The hose sample came back with lead at almost 3 times what the kit says is safe, and we had been filling the kiddie pool with that thing all summer. I sent it to a lab in town for $60 to double check and they got the same number. Turns out the old pipes run under our side of the street and the city keeps saying everything is fine. Have any of you actually pushed a city to retest their own lines, and did it go anywhere?
