Poured a driveway last Friday and the whole surface crumbled near the edges

Maybe some kind of cold snap caught the surface before it set right. That concrete might've needed a bit more water or a slower cure. Either way, sounds like you got a real bad batch or the ground wasn't prepped deep enough. idk, just a guess from seeing it happen before.
