Blown a 3 yard slab last Tuesday because the mix came out too wet

Was pouring a small patio in Akron. Truck showed up and the stuff was soupy right out the chute. Foreman said just run it but I knew better. Shoulda sent it back but we were already behind. Ended up having to wait almost 4 hours for it to set enough to finish. Customer was watching the whole time too. What do you guys do when the ready mix is way off spec? Send it back or try to work it?

Ha! I gotta say I'm with your foreman on this one, sorry! You can work with wet mud way easier than dry crap. That stuff sets up fast once you spread it and start working it, especially if it's a warm day in Akron. I've poured plenty of slabs where the mix came out a little loose and we just screeded it flat, let it sit for 20 minutes, then came back with a float and it was perfect. Sending a whole load back is a huge headache and waste of money, and the customer watching is gonna be way more pissed if they see a truck leave empty. Plus that waiting game you played sounds like it cost you more time than just running it would have.

Honestly @foster.dylan, waiting for wet mud to tighten up just kills your schedule way worse than running a dry load would've.

Twenty minutes? You just let wet mud sit and float it? That’s a new one on me, @foster.dylan.
