Wrote off the Hazmat dive course as a money grab, then a job in Morgan City proved me wrong
I skipped the hazmat cert for years because the $2,400 price tag felt like a racket when I already had my ADCI card and 6 years in the water. Then last March a contractor out of Morgan City needed a guy for a tank inspection and the only thing standing between me and 3 weeks of work was that piece of paper. I paid for the course, sat through 40 hours of it, and about halfway in I realized how much I did not know about decon and permeation rates. Anybody else here eat their words on a cert they swore they did not need?
Glad you finally got it done. I did the same thing with my confined space rescue cert years back, swore I'd never pay for it because I'd been going in holes forever and nobody ever asked. Then two jobs in a row got shut down because the safety guy wanted the card and I didn't have it. Sitting in that class I learned my "experience" was really just luck that nothing went wrong. The permeation stuff alone would've saved me from grabbing the wrong glove a dozen times. Pay the money, sit the class, and don't skip the hands on day even if it feels dumb.
