Tbh I remember reading something about compressors getting quieter right before they fail because the bearings wear down and the clearances open up. It's one of those counterintuitive things where quieter doesn't always mean better. My buddy had a similar issue with his AC unit last summer. He was happy it got quieter until it completely seized up on a 95 degree day. Cost him a ton more to fix than if he caught it early.

Totally agree with you on that one man. My old fridge started humming quieter than it ever had before and I thought it was finally settling in, you know? A week later it just gave up completely and all my food was ruined. It's crazy how something running smoother can actually be a warning sign, it's like the machine is too quiet because it's about to die. I had to learn that lesson the hard way too, now I get nervous when anything mechanical goes silent.
