Switched to a Kirby Morgan band mask after 10 years in a hard hat
Used to think hard hats were the only way to go for real commercial work. Tried a Kirby Morgan 37 last season on a bridge pier job in Seattle and now I don't think I'll go back. The comfort difference during 6 hour bottom times is huge. Anybody else make the switch and find it hard to adjust at first?

I gotta say that "comfort difference during 6 hour bottom times" really hits home for me. Nobody talks enough about how hard hats mess with your neck over long shifts, like that constant forward pull gets brutal after hour four. I made the switch to a band mask two years ago and the first week was weird because I kept reaching up to adjust my neck ring that wasn't there anymore. But once you get past that reflex, it's like your head isn't carrying a cinder block around anymore. Just watch out for those surges where the mask can shift if you're not used to the strap tension.
