Had a real bad silt-out at the Port of Tacoma last Tuesday

We were doing a basic hull clean on a container ship and my buddy's dredge line kicked up a huge cloud that went zero vis in seconds. I just froze for a second, felt for my umbilical, and followed it hand over hand back to the shot line. What's your go-to move when the water turns to chocolate milk like that?

Freeze completely when you can't see your hand in front of your face. Following your umbilical back is the only smart move in that soup. Glad you kept your head and didn't try to swim blind.

My first year diving I always tried to swim out of it. Got totally turned around once in the Duwamish. Now I just stop, grab my hose, and wait it out. That moment of patience is everything.
