Almost lost a guy to a snack break on a pipeline job in Morgan City
Last spring I was running a crew on a shallow water pipeline job out of Morgan City when my tender took a bite of his sandwich right as the diver hit 140 feet. The diver's exhaust hose kinked on the rack and nobody caught it until his comms went quiet for close to 90 seconds. I slammed the emergency valve, blew the line, and brought him up on the standby bottle while cussing that tender like a drunk sailor. The diver was fine but I wrote up the snack rule that same day and still enforce it. Does anyone else enforce a no eating within 10 feet of the panel, or am I just the grumpy old guy on this?
