I finally understood the hype around comic conventions after my first one in Chicago
I used to think collecting was just about the books, but seeing thousands of people in one place, all geeking out together, changed that. A guy in a perfect Spider-Man suit gave me a high-five and said 'welcome to the family.' Do you think the social side of being a fan is more important now than it was 20 years ago?

Yeah, @troy_gibson43 is right about the online-to-offline thing. It feels like the social side is the main point now, not just a bonus. The con is where your online fan friends become real people.

That "welcome to the family" moment is the best part! It really is about finding your people. The social side feels huge now because the internet lets us connect first, so meeting in person is like the big party after all the chatting online. Twenty years ago you were just a fan in your town, but now you show up and already have a crew.
