Been reading comics for 30 years and just now noticing how many sidekicks are just clones of the main hero
I grew up on 90s X-Men and Batman, never thought twice about it. Then my buddy pointed out last week that like half of Spider-Man's supporting cast are just alternate versions of him. Spider-Gwen, Miles, 2099, Ben Reilly - it's getting out of hand. When did this become the default move? Seems like every writer since 2010 just copies the main character instead of making someone new. Anyone else tired of the multiverse being a crutch?

Dan Slott said in an interview that editorial pushes for legacy characters because they sell better.

Wait Dan Slott actually said that out loud in an interview? Like he just admitted editorial is all about the money and not about good stories? lol that's wild. I mean we all kind of knew that's the deal but hearing a big writer say it straight up is still shocking. He's basically saying they don't care if the new character is good or makes sense, they just want that legacy name on the cover. That explains so much about how forced some of these replacements feel lol.
