A customer at the shop asked me to make her 'the coffee I'd want to drink right now'
It was a slow Tuesday morning at The Daily Grind in Springfield. This older woman came in, looked at the menu for a second, and then just asked me that. I made her a simple pour-over with the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe we had, nothing fancy. She took a sip, closed her eyes, and said, 'You can taste the care.' That was six months ago and I still think about it. It wasn't about being the best barista, just about making something honest. Has a simple comment from a customer ever stuck with you like that?

That's a really cool moment. Did you start making your own coffee differently after that, like maybe being less worried about getting every detail perfect?

My buddy who used to weigh his beans got a cheap drip machine as a gift. He said the first pot tasted fine, and now he just scoops the coffee straight from the bag. Total game changer for his morning stress.

My old roommate had a whole spreadsheet for his pour over water temp. He moved out and got a basic Mr. Coffee, says it's just as good 90% of the time. Makes you wonder if we're all just making busy work for ourselves over a hot drink.
