Finally got my first Python script to run after 11 days of trying
I sat at the kitchen table every night for a week and a half with a tutorial open, and my "guess the number" game kept crashing on line 14 no matter what I did. Then a guy named Ray at the Tuesday night meetup at the Ferndale library looked at my code for 30 seconds and asked why I had my while loop inside my function instead of the other way around. I swapped two blocks and it worked on the first try, and I actually yelled in my kitchen. What was your first program that finally ran after days of being stuck?
Remember when I thought copying code from tutorials was cheating? My first win was a dumb little dice roller, and I was stuck for like four days because I kept typing "import random" at the bottom of the file instead of the top. I swore up and down that moving it wouldnt matter, then Ray 2.0 at my kitchen table (aka my roommate) moved one line and it spit out numbers instantly. I used to think struggle was proof you were learning, but now I know sometimes you're just stuck on something small and someone else sees it in seconds. That 30 second fix teaches you more than 11 days of banging your head on line 14, lol.
