Can we talk about how VS Code autocomplete ruined me for Notepad++?
I started learning Python 3 months ago using VS Code with all the fancy extensions. Last week I had to edit a config file on a remote server and only had Notepad++ available. I sat there for 5 minutes just staring at the screen waiting for autocomplete to kick in. It never did obviously. I had to type out every single bracket and comma by hand. That little experiment made me realize how much I lean on those crutches. Has anyone else felt completely lost when switching to a bare bones editor?

Wait you stared at the screen for 5 full minutes? That's wild. I had the exact same thing happen when I had to fix a Dockerfile on a server using nano. I kept pressing Ctrl+Space over and over like a maniac and nothing happened. It was brutal trying to remember all the copilot suggestions I usually ignore. My bracket matching went from automatic to me literally counting on my fingers. Honestly it felt like trying to ride a bike with no handlebars after using training wheels for months.

The "trying to ride a bike with no handlebars" part hit me hard. My buddy actually had a meltdown on a team call last week. He was trying to write a simple SQL join from memory and just froze for a solid ten seconds. Then he typed "public" instead of "SELECT" and almost closed the SSH session out of embarrassment. @mark_nguyen95 you're not alone with that finger counting. He said he actually drew brackets on a piece of paper like a first year student.
