Visited a big tool show in Chicago and saw a Haas mill running a part with no coolant.

The rep said they were showing off a new coated end mill that can handle it, but I've always been told you need coolant for chip removal and heat. Has anyone here run dry on aluminum for a whole job, and did it work out?

What was the surface finish like on that part?

Oh man, my buddy tried that on a small aluminum run last year. The finish was awful, like @henryc64 was asking about, and the chips welded themselves everywhere. Total mess.
