Serious question, did I waste $85 on a tool post grinder or does everyone just live with chatter
Bought an $85 tool post grinder from a guy in Cleveland for my old lathe because I was chasing chatter on every finish pass and it was driving me up the wall. First run it threw grit everywhere and gummed up the cross slide, so I figured I got burned. Then I slowed the spindle down to about 60 percent and ran it dry with a shop vac right behind the wheel, and the finish came out smooth enough that the inspector nodded his head at me. So now I'm split, it saved me on this job but it's a fight to keep the ways clean. Anyone got a setup that keeps the grit off the machine or do you just tape everything off and pray?
