Appreciation post: The guy who taught me to tram a vise in under 5 minutes
Been running CNCs for about 8 years now. Last month I was training this new kid and I caught myself explaining the old trick where you use a test indicator and sweep the fixed jaw instead of the moving one. When I first started back at a shop in Grand Rapids, an old timer showed me that after I spent 20 minutes fighting with the alignment. Now I can get it within 0.0002 in maybe 3 minutes. Tried teaching the kid the same way and he still took forever. Anyone else have a quick tramming method that just clicks?

That old timer trick totally sold me. I was stubborn about it before.
