Why does nobody talk about how contrails make clouds that last 6 hours
I used to think contrails were just quick streaks that faded in a minute or two, so I never bothered watching them. Then I sat in my truck in a parking lot in Reno back in April and timed one, and that thin line hung there and slowly spread into a wide flat sheet for close to 6 hours. I came back the next morning and it had basically merged with the cirrus deck. Now I keep a log of where planes cross and it turns out half the high clouds I used to call natural are probably from jets. Does anyone else clock how long a contrail sticks around before it fans out?
