Why nobody talks about grease pencil marks on freezer racks
I used to throw away produce that sat in my work fridge for too long, but six months ago I started writing the date in grease pencil right on the plastic bin. At the co-op in Portland, we cut spoilage by about a third just from that tiny habit. Now I do it at home too, and it only takes ten seconds when I unpack groceries. Has anyone else tried a simple reminder system like this that actually worked?

Grease pencil works but I had to stop using it on my home fridge bins cause the marks never fully come off with just soap and water. Ended up switching to those little round date stickers meant for canning jars, way less messy. Still a great habit though, taking the two seconds to label stuff when it goes in saves so much guessing later. The real trick is also checking what's already in there before you buy more, otherwise you just end up dating stuff that still goes bad.
