Solar panel payback math is way off, 12 year estimate turned into 5
My neighbor got a quote for panels last year. They told him 12 years to break even. I did my own math with our power bill and state rebates. It came out to 5 years and change. Found the discrepancy online, the installers were using 2019 electric rates.
That got me thinking. Are companies lowballing the real savings on purpose? Or are they just lazy with old data? Because if more people knew the real timeline, I bet installs would double.
Who here has actually run the numbers themselves? Did it match the quote or wildly miss?
