Shoutout to the $400 I put into a heat pump water heater a couple winters back

It cut my gas bill by about $60 a month, which felt good, but honestly the bigger win was seeing my actual carbon footprint number drop on my utility's online dashboard, something I never thought I'd care about.

Read an article that said the math totally depends on your local rebates and energy costs, like you said. Some places have these crazy good state incentives that basically cover the whole unit cost, which changes everything. It made me realize my positive experience was probably just dumb luck with timing and location.

That's cool it worked for you, but man, the math never made sense for my place. The upfront cost was huge, and my electric rates are nuts. Saving $60 a month means it takes years just to break even, not counting if it needs a fix. Kinda feels like a win for the utility company more than my wallet, lol.
