My coworker said we should stop serving beef to cut our carbon footprint

He was cleaning the grill and just said 'This thing runs on gas, but the real fuel is the methane from the cows.' It made me think about how much waste we have versus how much impact a menu change would actually have. Do you think pressuring restaurants to change menus is a realistic way to cut emissions, or is it missing bigger targets like energy sources?

Burning down the Amazon for pasture" is a wild thing to just say.

So we're gonna save the planet by taking burgers off the menu while the grill still burns fossil fuels all night? Seems like we're worried about cow farts but ignoring the giant gas flame right in front of us. Menu changes feel good but they let bigger polluters off the hook. We should fix the energy source first, then maybe talk about the beef.

You're right about the grill, jesse_thomas27, but the land use for beef is a huge hidden cost. Growing feed for cattle means clearing forests that absorb carbon. So it's not just about the farts or the flame, it's about losing our best natural air filters. We can't just switch the grill to electric and call it a day if we're still burning down the Amazon to make pasture. Both problems need fixing at the same time.
