The before and after on a 90 year old flue liner was night and day

I had this house built in the 1930s over in Medford, the liner was all cracked and crumbly. Last month I pulled out the old clay sections by hand, took me a full Saturday. After I installed a new stainless steel liner and insulated it, the draft was way stronger. Has anyone else noticed a bigger difference with insulation wrap vs just the bare stainless?

Spent three Saturdays doing mine because I kept stopping to admire my own handiwork like a doofus.

Insulation wrap made a world of difference on my setup. Bare stainless still let too much heat escape in cold weather, but the wrap keeps the draft steady and strong. You might as well skip the insulation if you enjoy fighting a weak pull every time you light a fire.
